SUBJ:
1. THE LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT CENTER (LDC) IS SOLICITING REQUESTS
FROM UNITS INTERESTED IN HOSTING THE TEAM LEADER-FACILITATOR (TL-FAC)
COURSE IN FY11. HOSTING THE ON-SITE TL-FAC COURSE IS AN EXCELLENT
OPPORTUNITY AS IT PROVIDES VALUABLE LEADERSHIP AND FACILITATION TOOLS
TO LEADERS AND MANAGERS IN A SHORT TIME PERIOD AT LOW COST. STUDENTS
CONSISTENTLY GIVE THE COURSE HIGH MARKS.
2. THE TL-FAC COURSE ADDRESSES THE FOLLOWING LEADERSHIP COMPETENCIES:
TEAM BUILDING, EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATIONS, INFLUENCING OTHERS, DECISION
MAKING AND PROBLEM SOLVING, MANAGEMENT AND PROCESS IMPROVEMENT,
CONFLICT MANAGEMENT, AND CUSTOMER FOCUS. THE COURSE OBJECTIVE IS TO
PROVIDE STUDENTS WITH THE TOOLS, TECHNIQUES, AND CONCEPTS TO MORE
EFFECTIVELY LEAD SMALL GROUPS AND TEAMS OF ALL SIZES IN THE
WORKPLACE.
3. TARGET AUDIENCE IS E6 TO O5, GS9 TO GS13, AND SENIOR AUXILIARY
MEMBERS. HIGH PERFORMERS IN OTHER PAY GRADES ARE ALSO ENCOURAGED TO
ATTEND WITH SUPERVISOR APPROVAL. ATTENDEES SHOULD HAVE ROLES RANGING
FROM COMMAND CADRE POSITIONS TO THOSE WHO PROVIDE DIRECT SUPERVISION
TO GROUPS OR TEAMS AS FIRST LINE SUPERVISORS.
4. UNITS INTERESTED IN HOSTING A TL-FAC COURSE MUST MEET THE
FOLLOWING CRITERIA:
A. ENSURE/PROVIDE 21 TARGET-AUDIENCE STUDENTS WHO WILL BE PRESENT
FOR THE ENTIRE MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY, FIVE-DAY COURSE ON LOCAL
ORDERS. STUDENTS ATTENDING THE COURSE WILL BE IN A TDY STATUS DURING
THE TRAINING WEEK AND SHALL BE UNAVAILABLE TO PERFORM OTHER DUTIES.
B. ASSIGN A RESPONSIBLE POINT OF CONTACT (POC) TO FILL COURSE
QUOTAS AND COORDINATE ALL LOGISTICS. PROACTIVE HOST UNIT AND POC
PLANNING IS CRUCIAL TO ACHIEVING THE DESIRED TRAINING OUTCOMES.
C. PROVIDE A CLASSROOM AND TWO SEPARATE BREAK-OUT ROOMS FOR THE
ENTIRE FIVE-DAY COURSE.
D. PROVIDE THREE EASELS WITH CHART PAPER, A PROJECTOR WITH LAPTOP
COMPUTER HOOKUP, AND A SCREEN. A DRY-ERASE BOARD IS HELPFUL BUT NOT
REQUIRED.
5. HOSTING REQUESTS: INTERESTED UNITS THAT MEET THE ABOVE CRITERIA TO
HOST AN FY11 TL-FAC COURSE SHOULD SEND AN EMAIL REQUEST BY COB 11 DEC
2010 TO THE COURSE MANAGER, BMC DONAHUE AT
WILLIAM.A.DONAHUE(AT)USCG.MIL. REQUESTS MUST INCLUDE POC NAME AND
PHONE NUMBER AND, IN ORDER OF PREFERENCE, THREE WEEKS BETWEEN THE
MONTHS OF MARCH AND SEPT 2011 IN WHICH THE UNIT IS ABLE TO HOST THE
COURSE. SELECTED HOST UNITS WILL BE NOTIFIED VIA EMAIL TO EACH POC
AND A TL-FAC COURSE SITE ANNOUNCEMENT MESSAGE.
6. A LISTING OF SELECTED FY11 TL-FAC COURSE HOST UNITS WILL BE
PUBLISHED IN COMDTNOTE 1540, AVAILABLE ON THE TRAINING QUOTA
MANAGEMENT CENTER WEBSITE, HTTP://WWW.USCG.MIL/HQ/TQC/INDEX.SHTM.
